Business Overview

Our client is a US-based healthcare technology provider specializing in providing patient access to specialty medications. They help patients navigate the complex process of enrolling in programs that provide access to high-cost and rare medications. One of the client’s solutions is the MVP that uses AI to automate the processing of incoming enrollment forms. These forms can arrive as PDFs with varying layouts, field structures, and levels of readability, making manual data entry slow and error-prone.

Fully developed on the client’s side through vibe coding with Claude Codeβ€”including Claude Sonnet and Opus modelsβ€”the client’s vibe-coded healthcare app had not undergone any engineering review or comprehensive security and dependency assessment. The client engaged NIX United to move the product into broader use, validate whether the AI-generated code was reliable enough for a healthcare production environment, and implement fixes.

Project Scope

While the solution was totally functional, its code had not been reviewed by engineers. Since AI-generated code may contain hidden security gaps, inefficient processing logic, outdated dependencies, or inconsistent coding patterns, the AI-generated code audit was our main mission, including:

  • Logo

Review the backend and frontend against engineering best practices, design patterns, and SOLID principles

  • Logo

Check third-party libraries for known vulnerabilities, outdated versions, and licensing risks

  • Logo

Identify security gaps and data-handling issues, including PHI exposure in application logs

  • Logo

Validate document processing and AI-assisted data extraction across different inputs

  • Logo

Address code quality and reliability gaps and prepare the application for deployment to AWS environments

Challenge

In addition to determining whether a rapidly vibe-coded MVP could meet the engineering standards required for a healthcare production environment, our team faced the following challenges:

  • We needed to ensure the application met strict security and quality standards before production deployment. Because it processes sensitive health information, even an overlooked code flaw could expose protected health information (PHI), putting patient privacy and regulatory compliance at risk.
  • The AI image-processing workflow initially ran in a single thread, limiting how many documents the system could handle at once and creating a bottleneck as processing demands increased.

Solution

Since scaling the solution for real-world business needs, built on entirely AI-generated code, is risky and may be costly to fix as usage grows, our .NET team started the end-to-end assessment while preserving its core functionality.

AI-enabled Audit of the Vibe-Coded Codebase

We started with an end-to-end audit of the existing backend and frontend code. At this stage, our team reviewed the implementation for common code smells, maintainability issues, programming patterns, and adherence to SOLID principles and other engineering best practices. We also introduced a formal code analysis process that had been missing from the original vibe-coding workflow.

Although our engineers validated the findings and determined those required changes, they accelerated the review process by leveraging Claude Sonnet and Opus for architectural and complex tasks and Haiku for simple ones. As a result, we preserve the parts of the MVP that already worked while focusing on the areas that could create problems in production.

Checking Dependencies and Security Risks

Due to the highly sensitive and regulated healthcare sector, one of the most critical parts of our vibe code audit was security and dependency checks. Our team reviewed external libraries and their versions, and identified several implementation issues that could affect data security. One of them was PHI appearing in application logs, which could expose sensitive patient information and create serious privacy and regulatory compliance risks. We addressed this exposure so that patient information would not be unnecessarily written to logs and become accessible through operational tooling. We also identified an outdated version of AutoMapper and addressed the dependency as part of the production hardening process.

Improving AI Document Processing

Even though the MVP already automated the most important part of the workflow, such as incoming PDF documents, the initial implementation processed AI image-analysis tasks sequentially. This limited throughput and could become a bottleneck as the number of incoming documents increased. To address this and make better use of available resources, and to improve the application’s ability to handle multiple documents, our experts implemented concurrent document processing.

Strengthening Validation and Reliability

Our team also improved validation for incoming files, fixed miscellaneous field-mapping issues, and investigated unreliable SignalR live updates. Additionally, we conducted comprehensive testing of the configurable AI hints to validate features across different scenarios. These activities made the application more predictable when handling real-world documents and communicating processing results back to users.

Outcome

NIX United successfully transformed a vibe-coded healthcare MVP into a production-ready solution. After the solution was deployed to production, it got new users within the healthcare provider’s environment. Currently, our team continues to add improvements, expand functionality, and support the product as active development and feature requests continue.

The final solution showed impressive results, including:

93%

faster processing: C

Concurrent document processing reduced turnaround times for new drug enrollment forms to just a few hours.

76%

workload automated:

AI-powered form processing helps the team handle seasonal workload spikes without adding headcount.

~95%

field-mapping accuracy:

Improved precision from 70% in the initial MVP to a reliable, production-ready standard.
