Digital Sports is a global leading supplier of betting markets and related services to sportsbook operators worldwide. Having previously led the development of a core component within their overall platform, we have a deep understanding of its architecture and capabilities.

The client was operating with a distributed IT infrastructure spread across multiple data centers, including services hosted on third-party servers. This fragmented setup, while functional, presented significant challenges in terms of operational complexity and suboptimal performance. The client aimed to achieve a more agile, cost-effective, and scalable cloud environment, and chose NIX to support their long-term growth and operational efficiency goals.

Challenge

The primary challenge was the inherent complexity and inefficiency stemming from a decentralized infrastructure. This led to:

  • Increased Complexity: Managing resources across disparate locations was cumbersome and resource-intensive.
  • Performance Inefficiencies: Latency and inconsistent performance impacted user experience and operational workflows.

To mitigate these issues, the project scope involved a strategic consolidation of workloads. Specifically, the goal was to migrate selected servers from their existing setup, including the third-party servers, to a centralized infrastructure within AWS US. The migration aimed to enhance system reliability, reduce latency, and streamline operations by centralizing infrastructure in a single, unified region.

Solution

The selection of an AWS solution in the US region was a strategic decision, driven by its proven capabilities in scalability, cost optimization, and comprehensive service offerings. As an AWS partner, NIX played a pivotal role in facilitating the client’s approval for the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP).

This program provided crucial funding incentives designed to support the planning, preparation, and commencement of the migration project, accelerating initial success. The review process for the program took 11 days, indicating a swift initiation of the migration efforts.

NIX AWS cloud migration strategy for the betting platform involved:

  • Consolidation: Centralizing diverse workloads into a single AWS US region
  • Resource Optimization: Transitioning from outdated resources to scalable and cost-efficient AWS services
  • Service Utilization: Implementing key AWS services such as EC2 for compute (including database instances), S3 for storage, Elastic Load Balancers (ELB) for traffic distribution, and Auto Scaling Groups for dynamic capacity management.
