Our client is a global education technology company that provides digital learning platforms, courseware, and academic content used by millions of learners across 165+ countries. Its large-scale AWS ecosystem supports multiple independent products and business domains. As the organization continued to scale, cloud costs increased while infrastructure became harder to manage.

Based on our long-term collaboration with the company, NIX identified opportunities to address these issues, improving cloud cost efficiency and infrastructure visibility. Together with the client, we defined a focused optimization initiative starting with a pilot product to validate the proposed approach before scaling it across the broader cloud landscape.

Project Scope

Our goal for this project was to optimize one of the client’s products as a starting point for a larger transformation. Key objectives included:

Challenges

The environment had grown organically, resulting in fragmented resource management and limited cost visibility. Multiple environments coexisted within the same accounts, with inconsistent configurations and no clear separation. At the same time, unused resources and overprovisioned infrastructure were driving unnecessary costs.

The main challenge was to introduce meaningful cloud infrastructure optimization quickly and smoothly, without major architectural changes or disrupting ongoing operations.

By eliminating unused resources, AWS rightsizing workloads, and optimizing storage and lower environments, the company achieved measurable cost savings without disrupting daily operations.

At the same time, better tagging, governance, and cost allocation practices provided greater transparency and control over cloud consumption. Following the successful pilot, the client approved extending the initiative to additional products, creating a foundation for scaling optimization efforts across the broader cloud ecosystem.
