Business Overview

Our client provides an all-in-one cloud platform for government and commercial drone fleet management and unmanned traffic management (UTM). They focus on solving the complexity of large-scale commercial drone operations and airspace integration.

The drone fleet management software centralizes real-time coordination and remote operations through AI-driven autonomous flight and mission planning. To ensure airspace safety, the platform integrates with regulatory authorities to receive live ATC updates, implement geo-fencing, and facilitate de-confliction between manned and unmanned traffic. Beyond drones, the platform offers the capability to monitor other aircraft and ships equipped with UTM/USSP sensors.

Business Overview

Project Scope

The client approached NIX to strengthen their existing development capabilities. They required immediate team reinforcement to address a backlog of new feature development and ensure the long-term stability of their legacy front-end applications.
Our company provided a dedicated team with the necessary expertise to contribute to new feature implementation, support legacy codebases, and ensure rigorous quality control over the front-end codebase.

The initial scope quickly expanded to include critical modernization tasks:

1

Developing new functionalities and providing continuous support for existing legacy front ends, ensuring code stability

2

Implementing a new design and a new infrastructure foundation for the application

3

Migrating geo-mapping infrastructure for sustainable compatibility and utility

Solution

First engaged for staff augmentation, NIX’s team rapidly became indispensable support behind the application’s technological pivot. We performed new implementations while also providing professional assistance on the complex, phased modernization.

Outcome@2x
  • 01

    Architecture Enhancement and Standardization

Our team modernized the application’s core architecture, transitioning to a high-performance stack that prioritizes long-term scalability and efficiency. By establishing a unified design system and a shared component library, we eliminated redundant development and ensured a cohesive user experience across all platforms. This foundation was further strengthened by automated quality control pipelines and secure authentication frameworks, providing continuous quality and stability.

  • 02

    Strategic Map Library Migration

To ensure broad system compatibility and high-performance visualization, our team led a strategic multi-phase transition of the platform’s mapping infrastructure. Initially, we moved from Google Maps to MapboxGL to support advanced 3D capabilities, but eventually pivoted to OpenLayers as a more versatile and stable framework, ensuring seamless integration with third-party organizations and client systems.

  • 03

    Real-time Performance Optimization

NIX’s experts optimized real-time map performance to keep the application highly responsive and stable, even when handling the massive data volumes required for live mapping. We also implemented sophisticated background processing and a data-on-demand retrieval strategy to enable instant access to critical location data.

  • 04

    Integrations

We developed a resilient network layer for real-time telemetry and operational updates, ensuring maximum reliability. By unifying mapping services and internal APIs, our team established a single communication bridge that guarantees data consistency across the front-end ecosystem while maintaining peak performance under heavy loads.

Outcome

Working alongside the client, we successfully transitioned their legacy software into a high-performance multi-app ecosystem, supported by a unified architectural foundation that now drives rapid, scalable development.

A remarkable achievement was the 40% acceleration of the development cycle, driven by the creation of shared component and map management libraries that significantly reduced code duplication by 60% and cut overhead across the entire application ecosystem by 35%. This foundational work directly translates into faster feature deployment and substantially lower long-term maintenance costs.

Now the entire ecosystem of multiple specialized React applications—ranging from live flight controls to administrative portals—is stable and running in active production, and new functionality is being continuously added and supported.
