Within business, it is essential to choose the right technology. This applies in the corporate world as much as it does around software development and web application. The right technology helps ensure existing systems and processes work smoothly and benefit clients and consumers that are used to a specific look and feel. This is especially true when talking about web application development.
When it comes to websites, JavaScript (JS) is one of the most widely used tools in the industry. However, choosing the right framework – AngularJS, NodeJS, or ReactJS – can be a difficult decision. Each of them has its proponents and advocates. When selecting a web application developer, it is good to have an idea of what each framework does so you know which one is best for your specific needs.
There are many different reasons for a specific developer to choose one framework, and the experience of the developer is not always the only deciding factor. All three are written in JavaScript, but they were not written or released at the same time. As such, the one that a developer specializes in might have been the most popular when they started web application development but it might not be the right one for your needs.
AngularJS was launched by Google in 2009. The focus behind the creation of AngularJS was a tool that can help developers working on applications built around a single page.
When considering AngularJS vs. NodeJS, it’s important to realize they are both about the same age. NodeJS is built around Chrome’s JavaScript engine, but it too was released in 2009.
Angular JS has a large and supportive user community, which can be extremely helpful when working through difficult situations. Added to this is a very comprehensive list of libraries and robust templating solutions. In fact, AngularJS templates can be built similarly to regular HTML and also provide the ability to have the templates re-used, saving valuable time. AngularJS is an excellent tool for learning developers as it offers a very flexible and customizable user interface that helps speed up development time and effort.
While AngularJS is suited to learning developers, it does still have a reasonably steep learning curve that needs to be navigated. Some possible issues that need to be considered are related to third-party integrations and overall debugging problems. Finally, it is essential to realize that AngularJS could have some performance problems with DOM components.
NodeJS, as previously mentioned, was released by Google in 2009, along with AngularJS. NodeJS is a cross-platform, open-source system built on Chrome’s V8 engine. NodeJS lets web application developers build network applications that can grow quickly and easily.
NodeJS is primarily used to simplify the development of more complex web applications. As such, it allows developers to scale up applications in both a horizontal or vertical manner. NodeJS can act as a server-side proxy, which lets developers proxy different services, and due to the MIT license, it is a free, open-source development platform.
When comparing AngularJS and NodeJS, the library available to AngularJS developers is significantly larger. NodeJS is best suited for web servers and not CPU intensive tasks as it does not support multi-threaded programming. NodeJS also suffers from frequent API changes, with users often experiencing compatibility issues between versions.
ReactJS is the newest of the three as it was released in 2013; however, it is safe to say that ReactJS is more of an open-source JavaScript library than a simple framework. ReactJS was built for a specific purpose as its function is associated with resolving problems in the rendering of large datasets.
As the newest framework, ReactJS has learned some interesting lessons and offers developers an easy way to create templates based on JavaScript. Also, the ReactJS code components can be re-used, which helps developers save valuable time and effort. ReactJS offers local libraries with support for apps on Android and iOS, as well as UPD. Another significant advantage of ReactJS is how simple it is to debug. The overall debugging process is fast and reliable, and with support for both front-end and server-side ReactJS is a very promising framework for developers.
The overall learning curve for ReactJS is unfortunately somewhat abrupt, and while ReactJS does offer tutorials for developers, it does not have the robust user community that AngularJS enjoys. Added to this is the fact the documentation available for ReactJS is incomplete, which makes learning the system even more problematic.
Choosing the right framework very much depends on your requirements and desired outcomes. All three of the frameworks we’ve discussed here perform well and are quite widely used, so picking the right one depends on you and what you want to do. What is important to remember are the differences between them. AngularJS, as a fully-featured framework, has the largest user community, while ReactJS is more of a library and is the newest. NodeJS, by contrast, lets you create fast and scalable networking applications.
