Our client, Progress Play, operates within the online betting and gaming industry, focusing on web solutions for betting platforms. They cater to operators who need to launch a branded product quickly and efficiently. The company sought rapid expansion into the iOS user base but needed to avoid the substantial resource expenditure and extended time-to-market of full native development. To achieve immediate market presence while maintaining cost efficiency, they strategically commissioned an iOS wrapper over the existing web application.
Progress Play partnered with NIX to design and implement a brand-new iOS web app wrapper βa native container built to host and manage the existing web application, enabling App Store distribution without rewriting the core platform. The solution ensures a faster time to market and reduces technical complexity, allowing operators to focus on providing a seamless betting experience to their users.
NIX was engaged to quickly mobilize the client’s casino platform by creating a native iOS wrapper app. The goal was to provide the look and feel of a regular mobile app while avoiding the high expense of full native development. Crucially, the solution needed to enhance user engagement while ensuring full compliance with App Store guidelines and industry-specific restrictions.
Our team’s scope of work covered the following:
Building the native iOS container to embed the existing web application
Developing a custom, secure networking layer to bridge the gap between the native container and the web view
Integrating high-value native features essential for modern mobile compliance, security, and marketing: location services, push notifications, biometric security, and AppsFlyer integration
The projectβs complexity stemmed from the technical difficulty of bridging a new native application to a client system with no internal transparency.
The most severe technical hurdle was integrating our native wrapper with the clientβs backend, while facing the critical lack of current, comprehensive system documentation and ambiguity regarding their systemβs core operational logic. To ensure the fundamental technical feasibility of the final product, our team had to perform an extensive knowledge transfer and reverse engineering on the legacy back end, essentially mapping undocumented data flows to proceed with development.
Our team began by deeply studying the clientβs business goals and the specific, stringent regulatory requirements for betting and gambling applications. Building this solution required starting with a crucial feasibility test.
First, we had to prove the clientβs conceptβenabling seamless user login and session transfer between two technically distinct applications: the native wrapper and the embedded web application. To do this, our experts created a PoC to confirm that a user could log in natively and remain authenticated once the web view loaded. The PoC successfully confirmed this cross-system viability, giving the client confidence to proceed with developing the wrapper.
Building on the PoCβs success, our solution involved designing a custom network layer that seamlessly transfers the user’s authenticated session from the iOS wrapper app to the embedded web application. This achievement ensured users only had to log in once for a unified mobile experience.
The streamlined, App Store-compliant wrapper app that utilizes a web view to mirror the core functionality and user experience of the existing website was integrated with the following native iOS components:
Native screens for login, signup, and password recovery, integrated with the core web-view application using WKWebView, ensure compliance with Appleβs requirements and provide a secure, familiar mobile experience.
A custom, secure networking layer bridges the gap between the native container and the web view. This enables users to stay logged in across layers while also handling all sensitive data like user tokens with industry-standard encryption.
FaceID authentication support that allows for faster, stronger security during login and session retrieval.
