The client runs a large software development enterprise that constantly seeks new talent, which necessitates an effective recruiting process. However, attracting qualified candidates with the right skills and cultural fit was too resource-intensive; it incurred significant hiring costs, due to the excessive time and labor required to manually process job applications.
The client wanted to automate and optimize job candidate filtering by implementing a custom online system to identify future high-performers with long-term potential. They chose NIX for our ability to handle complex development projects that require deep technical knowledge, a flexible custom approach, and expertise in non-standard areas—in this case, psychological assessment.
Our team set out to develop an advanced web platform focused on talent discovery through gamified psychological testing. The goal was to pre-assess candidates’ soft skills and cognitive abilities and find the best match for the client’s values and needs.
Building on the client’s existing Moodle infrastructure, we created a fully customized platform, enhanced with tailor-made plugins. The system comprises a suite of automated psychological assessments, integrated with a powerful reporting module that delivers in-depth analyses and clear, actionable insights.
By joining forces with NIX’s expert psychologists, our engineering team made the interview process more engaging and effective by developing interactive tests and games grounded in sound, evidence-based research.
So far, we’ve created five games and two tests designed to assess key candidate qualities and cognitive skills, including problem-solving, concentration, adaptability, self-awareness, flexibility, and intuition.
Users are tasked with engaging, dynamic challenges, like planning the most efficient route through a multi-story mall under time constraints or making strategic decisions in uncertain scenarios to maximize rewards.
Each game and test works as an independent cross-platform web application integrated with the Moodle learning management system. They run on Flutter, a game development framework that enables adaptive user interfaces, smooth animations, and efficient execution even on low-end devices. For complex games requiring physics, custom input, and collisions, we ensured seamless functionality by using Flame, Google’s engine for Flutter. Simpler games utilize default Flutter widgets to minimize size and load time. The back end, built with Kotlin and powered by the Java Spring Boot module, ensures a highly available, low-maintenance platform with strong performance and minimal server requirements.
During development, we encountered a challenge with Safari’s audio and video processing, which affected media synchronization in some games. We overcame this by leveraging JavaScript and WebAssembly support to optimize Flutter’s web capabilities. The chosen strategy ensured stable playback and consistent performance across all browsers, delivering a smooth, uninterrupted user experience.
Working alongside psychologists, we developed an advanced algorithm to process and analyze test results with high precision. The system continuously learns from past candidate data, refining its scoring model to enhance accuracy and fairness over time.
Using web application frameworks including React and Laravel, the NIX team developed a robust reporting system to ensure seamless data aggregation from unlimited sources. This system consolidates each candidate’s test results into a comprehensive report in an intuitive, visually structured format. Recruiters can easily and efficiently assess key candidate attributes, compare multiple profiles, and make informed hiring decisions based on data-driven insights.
By partnering with NIX, the client successfully transformed their recruiting process. Their new system streamlines and optimizes talent acquisition, thereby not only maximizing efficiency and resource allocation, but also ensuring that only the best candidates move forward in the hiring pipeline. This has significantly improved candidate relevance, by minimizing mismatches and achieving a stronger cultural and skill-based fit.
Our collaboration with the client continues as we expand the system’s capabilities, adding new games and features to further refine the hiring process. A new, enhanced version is already in development and planned for release, integrating AI and ML to accelerate and optimize candidate evaluations. These advancements will make assessments even more adaptive and insightful, evolving the platform into an indispensable tool for modern talent discovery: helping businesses secure the right people while minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency and accuracy.
