Business Overview

Our client, a prominent healthcare performance improvement company, caters to acute and ambulatory care providers and academic medical centers. Collaborating with diverse healthcare entities, the company extends their innovative practices and expertise across communities and the care continuum to enhance the delivery of high-value care by harmonizing cost, quality, and market performance.

One of the client’s products is a web application that facilitates advanced performance analytics of recently graduated nurses, leveraging a variety of questionnaires.

The objective is to analyze and visualize the data acquired from these surveys, enabling employers to evaluate the nurses’ onboarding, level of comfort, performance, training effectiveness, mentorship impact, and related aspects. Subsequently, this data is meticulously compared with that of other healthcare institutions, fostering an avenue for comprehensive analysis.

The client faced the need to enhance existing analytics capabilities and expand in-house resources with NIX’s data team to speed up the delivery pace.

Solution

The existing dashboards were created using Angular and Tableau and demanded excessive development effort, suffering from subpar visual design and incurring substantial costs for maintenance.

After thoroughly evaluating the client’s needs and system, the NIX team advised switching to Power BI due to the client’s Microsoft-focused environment. This choice ensures better security, fewer errors, and seamless integration. Unlike Tableau, Power BI allows for a streamlined CI/CD process, speeding up development, reducing errors, enabling pair programming, and supporting selective deployment. This strategic shift allows us to address a broader spectrum of custom stakeholder needs quickly and more efficiently.

The questionnaires are categorized into two distinct types: widely employed industry-standard surveys such as Casey-Fink, as well as custom client questionnaires. These surveys are utilized by C-level executives, HR directors, and others within the healthcare sector.

We use Azure SQL as the data repository for all surveys, while Azure Data Factory is employed for the data transformation. Based on the stakeholders requests, we initially transform the data to align it with upcoming analytics. Following this, we transfer the data to Power BI for visualization and design custom dashboards that are smoothly embedded into the client’s Angular-based web system.

Outcome

Harnessing our profound expertise and seamlessly transitioning analytics to Power BI, we have successfully forged a robust Power BI solution that now plays a more pivotal role than ever in empowering our client to offer unparalleled benchmarking opportunities to their clientele. This sophisticated BI solution facilitates healthcare institutions in thoroughly evaluating their performance relative to enterprises of comparable size, both within their own state and an adjacent state.

Key benefits:

  • Enhanced competitor analysis: The solution enables the client’s customers to gain a comprehensive view of their competitive landscape, leading to better strategic decision-making.
  • Customized performance evaluation: Through tailored benchmarking, the client’s customers can measure their progress against directly relevant peers, enabling strategic adjustments.
  • Operational efficiency: The BI system converts insights into actionable activities that increase efficiency and streamline processes, resulting in cost savings and better financial outcomes.
